Annual Review: Data Analysis of Chemical Fertilizers Registered in China in 2023

Based on statistical data, 772 chemical fertilizers were newly registered in China in 2023. Among these registrations, the predominant types of fertilizers were water-soluble fertilizers containing amino acids, water-soluble fertilizers containing humic acids, and organic water-soluble fertilizers. In order to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the registered chemical fertilizers in China during 2023, we have diligently organized the data from various perspectives. Our aim is to assist fertilizer companies in gaining valuable insights into the landscape of registered chemical fertilizers in China.

1. The Number of Chemical Fertilizers Registered

Figure 1 illustrates the number of registered chemical fertilizers from 2019 to 2023. Notably, 2019 witnessed the highest number of registrations, totaling 1,772. Conversely, 2022 recorded the lowest number of registrations, with a mere 594 during to regulation change. However, in 2023, the number of registrations rebounded significantly to reach 772, indicating a notable 30% increase compared to the previous year.

2. Types of Chemical Fertilizers Registered

Among the various types of chemical fertilizers, the registrations can be categorized as follows:

• Water-soluble fertilizers containing amino acids: 271 registrations.
• Water-soluble fertilizers containing humic acids: 229 registrations.
• Organic water-soluble fertilizers: 196 registrations.

These three types collectively account for a significant proportion of 90.2% of the total registered chemical fertilizers in China. Additionally, there were 38 registrations for non-water soluble secondary element fertilizers, 17 registrations for water-soluble silicon fertilizers, 13 registrations for soil amendments, and 5 registrations for slow-release fertilizers. Comparatively, calcium ammonium nitrate for agricultural use, agro-forestry absorbent polymer, and fertilizer synergist had the lowest number of registrations, with only one registration each.

3. Enterprises of Chemical Fertilizer Registered

Table 1 presents the top three enterprises in China, ranked by the number of registered chemical fertilizers in 2023. Anhui Nongqiao Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., Binzhou Xinrong Biofertilizer Co., Ltd., and Chunyu Biotechnology (Shandong) Co., Ltd. are the leading enterprises in terms of the highest number of registered chemical fertilizers. These companies are closely followed by Henan Yuzhixing Crop Protection Co., Ltd. and Hebi Hongchang Chemical Co., Ltd., each with a notable registration count of 7.

4. Formulation type of Chemical Fertilizers Registered

In 2023, the registered chemical fertilizer formulations in China encompassed three predominant types: soluble concentrate, powder, and granular. The corresponding number of registrations for each formulation type was 517, 190, and 65, respectively. Notably, soluble concentrate formulations accounted for a substantial proportion of 67% among the registered chemical fertilizers.

In summary, a total of 772 newly registered chemical fertilizers registered in China during 2023. The majority of these registrations consisted water-soluble fertilizers containing amino acids, water-soluble fertilizers containing humic acids, and organic water-soluble fertilizers. Additionally, the registered chemical fertilizer formulation type prominently consisted of soluble concentrate formulations.
