Year-end Review | Pesticide Products Approved in China for Export Exclusively in 2023

The editorial team from CIRS took you through a review of exclusively authorized pesticide registrations for export only approved in China. In 2023, a total of 206 new registrations for exclusively exportable pesticides were granted in 2023 (including 18 products announced in the 12th batch of public notification for 2023). Among these registrations, there were 35 active ingredient products and 171 formulated products.

Since the publication of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' Announcement No. 269 on June 8, 2020, regarding the registration policy for exclusively exportable pesticide products, over 500 pesticide products specifically for export have been registered. The table below provides a breakdown of the number of exclusively exportable registrations approved each year from 2021 to 2023.

Table 1 presents the newly registered active ingredients for exclusively exportable products in 2023, totaling 22 active ingredients. Among them, there were seven registrations for Chlorimuron-ethyl, and both paraquat and teflubenzuron had four registrations each. mesotrione had two registrations, while the remaining 18 active ingredients, such as fenpropidine and Butroxydim, had one registration each. Within these, eight active ingredients highlighted in red, namely teflubenzuron, fenpropidine, Butroxydim, dimethenamid-p, fluorochloridone, pyrasulfotole, chloridazon, chlorthal-dimethyl, were registered for the first time in 2023 as part of the active ingredient list.

According to the statistics from pesticide manufacturers, a total of 67 companies obtained exclusive export registrations in 2023. Among them, Shandong Weifang Runfeng Chemical Co., Ltd. ranked the highest with 47 exclusive export registrations, making it the manufacturer with the most registrations. Hebei Weiyuan Biochemical Co., Ltd. obtained 15 exclusive export registrations. Just like in 2022, Australia and Cambodia had the highest number of new registrations for exclusive export pesticides. Additionally, Brazil, Paraguay, the United States, Indonesia, and others were among the countries with a relatively high number of exclusive export registrations. In terms of pesticide categories, herbicides had the highest number of exclusive export registrations in 2023, accounting for 59% of all registered products. Insecticides ranked second with 26% of all products, followed by fungicides at 11%. There were also some products classified as plant growth regulators and acaricides.

In terms of formulation types, emulsifiable concentrates (EC) were the predominant formulation type among the registered products in 2023, accounting for 20% of all products. Water-dispersible granules (WG) ranked second with 17% of the registered products, followed by suspension concentrates (SC) at 13%. Solution concentrates, wettable powders, water-soluble granules, and oil-dispersible suspensions were also major formulation types among the applications.

 In terms of active ingredients, the newly registered formulations with exclusive export status in 2023 included several active ingredients such as metsulfuron-methyl、abamectin-aminomethyl、abamectin. metsulfuron-methyl had 19 registrations, while abamectin-aminomethyl had 15 registrations.

In summary, there were a total of 206 new registrations for exclusive export pesticides in China in 2023 (including 18 products announced in the 12th batch of registrations in 2023). Among these, 35 were active ingredient (technical) products, and 171 were formulated products.
