In 2024, a total of 182 export-only pesticides were approved in China, this consisted of 43 technical-grade active ingredients (TGAIs) and 139 formulations.
The approved new export-only registrations of active ingredients included aclonifen, quinoxyfen, flufenoximacil, flusulfinam, fluchloraminopyr, Fluindapyr, cyproflanilide, Dichlorprop-P, and fluazaindolizine. Cambodia, Australia, and Brazil remained the top destination countries for export-only applications.
Since the announcement of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' Policy No. 269 on June 8, 2020, more than 700 export-only pesticides have been registered.
Figure 1 illustrates the annual registration numbers of export-only pesticides from 2021 to 2024. In 2024, 182 export-only pesticides were registered, marking a slight decrease from the previous year.
In 2024, Table 1 presents the newly approved export-only TGAIs, including 27 active ingredients. Among these:
- Methomyl: four registrations;
- 2,4-D butylate, flumioxazin, and carbofuran: three registrations each;
- Paraquat, fipronil, glufosinate-p, aminocyclopyrachlor, chlorimuron-ethyl technical, azoxystrobin, and omethoate: two registrations each; and
- The remaining active ingredients, such as MCPA-sodium, aclonifen, and quinoxyfen, have one registration each.
The nine new active ingredients obtained their first registration in China (highlighted in red): aclonifen, quinoxyfen, flufenoximacil, flusulfinam, fluchloraminopyr, Fluindapyr, cyproflanilide, Dichlorprop-P, and fluazaindolizine. Notably, many active ingredients are developed in China, such as flufenoximacil, flusulfinam, and cyproflanilide.

In 2024, a total of 88 companies obtained export-only registrations. Figure 2 shows the top seven companies in terms of the number of export-only pesticide registrations obtained in 2024. Shandong Weifang Rainbow Chemical Co., Ltd. obtained 20 export-only registrations, ranking first. Dalian Songliao Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. in Liaoning Province obtained eight registrations, and Shandong Binnong Technology Co., Ltd. obtained seven registrations.
Figure 3 illustrates the top ten export countries for export-only pesticides in 2024, along with their respective registration numbers. Cambodia leads with 31 registrations, followed by Australia with 19, and Brazil with 16. The top three rankings remain consistent with those of 2023.
Based on the statistical breakdown of pesticide categories in 2024, herbicides dominated the export-only registrations with 112 entries (62%), followed by insecticides with 40 registrations (22%) and fungicides with 24 registrations (13%).
In terms of formulation types, the top five categories were:
- emulsifiable concentrates (EC) – 37;
- soluble concentrates (SC) – 36;
- suspension concentrates (SL) – 26;
- water-dispersible granules (WG) – 13; and
- soluble granules (SG) – 7.
The active ingredients with the highest number of registrations for new formulations exclusively for export in 2024 were:
- glyphosate – 16,
- paraquat – 10,
- 2,4-D butylate – 9; and
- glufosinate-p – 7.
