In 2021, the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHC) issued 4 announcements (No. 9, 2020, No. 2, 2021, No. 6, 2021, and No. 9, 2021) for the approval of new food-related products (herein "new food contact additives and resins"). Totally, 37 new food contact additives and resins (including expanded use) are approved.
Besides, from the website of NHC and China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA), a total of 58 new food contact additives and resins application were officially accepted and 46 food contact additives and resins (including expanded use) were issued for public comments.

1. List of new food contact additives and resins application acceptance in 2021 (58 types)
In 2021, NHC accepted the applications of 58 new food contact additives and resins, which include 26 of domestic products and 32 of overseas products. By the end of 2021, a total of 16 accepted products have passed the technical review of the Expert Review Committee from CFSA and have been open for public comments. At the same time, 11 products have been reviewed and issued a disapproval decision.

2. List of drafted approved new food contact additives and resins in 2021 (46 types)
In 2021, 46 of new food contact additives and resins have passed the technical review of the CFSA Expert Review Committee and have been open for public comments, including 12 of new food contact additives, 15 of expanded use of current food contact additives, 17 of new food contact resins, 1 of new food contact material and article, and 1 new disinfectant raw material. Among them, all of the products issued on 4th February and 21th April were officially approved in the second half of this year.

Summary
In order to implement the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, and properly carry out the technical review work, CFSA continues to adopt the way of online video evaluation for new food-related products.
Through above analysis and summary, it can be seen that compared to 2020, the number of accepted products (58) and the number of the products for public comment (46) in 2021 has increased significantly, especially for imported products. This shows that the pace of compliance of import companies is also accelerating under the normalization epidemic situation.
The application process of new food contact additives and resins includes three important stages. Stage 1, NHC accepts the application. Stage 2, CFSA issues the drafts for public comments after technical review. Stage 3, NHC approves the application. Generally, the application timeline is at least one year. Thus, if the application is accepted in this year, its draft for public comment will generally be issued in this year or next year, and if goes well, it will be approved in next year or the year after next year. This can also be clearly seen from the summary of the above table (the number of products officially approved in 2021 and the number of the products for public comment in 2020 are same).
