CFSA is Collecting Public Comments on Yerba Mate as a New Food Raw Material

On June 21, 2023, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) issued a public consultation on Yerba mate as a new food raw material. The deadline for public comments is July 21, 2023. Details are as follows:

Brief introduction of the production process

Prepared through picking, roasting, chopping, drying, and other processes by using leaves of Ilex paraguariensis A.St.-Hil. as raw materials.

Other information

1. The product is not suitable for consumption by infants, young children, pregnant and breastfeeding women. The labels and instructions must be marked with which groups it is unsuitable for.

2. Edible method: brewing

3. Food safety indicators must meet the following requirements:

Lead (Pb) milligrams/kilogram (mg/kg)

≤3.0

Cadmium (Cd), mg/kg

≤0.5

Arsenic (As), mg/kg

≤0.5
