China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) is seeking suggestions for new health functions to be included in the directory of permitted claims for health foods. The SAMR issued a public announcement encouraging individuals, companies, research institutions, and organizations to participate in the development and evaluation of new health functions, promoting high-quality product innovation.

On August 28, 2023, the SAMR published the Detailed Rules for Technical Review of New Functions and Products of Health Food (Trial), which has gained significant attention and marks a key step in advancing health food research and development to meet public health needs.

The SAMR encourages all stakeholders involved in health function research to submit proposals for new functions. Consultation can be conducted through various channels, including phone, in-person inquiries, mail, or email. The announcement also outlines the basic requirements, methods, and the address for submitting suggestions and registration materials.

The announcement follows the principles set by the Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China and related regulations, emphasizing legality, science, transparency, and fairness in the development of the health function directory.

Submissions will be accepted until December 31, 2024.
