What are food contact materials and articles?

Food contact materials and articles (FCM) are materials and articles that are, or expected to be, in contact with food or food additives, or whose components may transfer to food under normal conditions of use. This includes packaging materials, containers, tools, and equipment used for food production, processing, packaging, transportation, storage, sale, and use, as well as inks, adhesives, lubricants, and other substances that may come into direct or indirect contact with food. However, detergents, disinfectants, and public water supply facilities are excluded.

Legal provisions regarding FCM formula

It’s stipulated in Article 41 of the Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China that the production of food-related products must comply with laws, regulations, and national food safety standards.
